Senior Research Officer – Structural Biology of DNA Repair Complexes

The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. They are seeking an experienced Senior Research Officer to support research into DNA repair, focusing on the structural and mechanistic basis of DNA repair complexes using advanced biochemistry and cryo-electron microscopy.

Responsibilities

Support a major research program investigating the structural and mechanistic basis of DNA repair
Define the architecture, assembly, and functional dynamics of multi-protein DNA repair complexes
Lead the establishment of experimental pipelines for DNA repair complexes
Prepare high-quality specimens for structural, biochemical, and biophysical studies
Contribute to cryo-EM data acquisition and analysis
Contribute to high-quality publications
Assist with grant development
Support the supervision and training of students and junior researchers

Required

A relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent
An excellent academic record and achievements
Demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research
Research experience that has resulted in publications, conference papers or reports
Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment
Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers
Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable

Preferred

Substantial postdoctoral experience in the biochemistry and biophysics of DNA repair systems
Strong track record in the expression, purification, and functional characterisation of large protein assemblies
Experience with cryo-EM sample preparation, data collection, or image processing
