Materials Engineer Intern - Summer 2026
Charter Steel is a fourth-generation family-owned business that values growth and culture. They are seeking a Materials Engineer Intern who will contribute to meaningful projects, gain hands-on experience, and develop skills through mentorship and training.

Responsibilities
Focus on melt cycle optimization through standard work and tap to tap tracking
Understand and promote least cost charge, chemistry change, and adjust training with all employees to expand knowledge among hourly team members
Participate in Continuous Improvement projects
Assist in other projects and function as a resource for other team members
Participate in the fundamentals of product design and development including testing using a variety of tools and equipment
Document and improve processes
Qualification
Required
Enrollment in a four-year degree program in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field with current status of at least a Sophomore level
Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Proficient in Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
Ability to succeed in a team environment
Ability to handle multiple tasks
Preferred
Experience with Auto CAD and Pro-E
