Responsibilities
Articulate and implement a vision for the department aligned with college and university goals
Manage departmental operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, staffing, and scheduling
Ensure continued growth and innovation in undergraduate and graduate programs
Lead curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and program assessment
Promote student recruitment, retention, and success at all levels
Recruit, mentor, and retain outstanding faculty and staff
Foster a supportive and collaborative culture
Support faculty advancement in teaching, research, and service
Strengthen the departmental research profile and interdisciplinary collaboration
Support faculty in securing external funding and building research capacity
Develop partnerships with industry, government, and research organizations
Engage alumni, donors, and external partners to enhance departmental visibility
Pursue fundraising and development opportunities to support departmental initiatives
Qualification
Required
An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated leadership experience in academic or research administration
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
A record of teaching, research, and service achievements meriting appointment as a tenured Professor at UNT
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role
Preferred
Experience with ABET accreditation and program assessment
Evidence of successful industry, government, or research collaborations
Experience in fundraising, development, or advancement activities
A record of supporting student success and faculty development
