Electric System Technician
NEOGOV is seeking an Electric System Technician to perform technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric systems. The role involves inspecting electric systems, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring reliability and efficiency of the electric system.

Responsibilities
Inspects all aspects of the electric system as directed to ensure reliability and proper operation of the system
Identifies areas in need of improvements or repair and creates work orders for work to be completed
Schedules and performs annual infrared inspections to minimize equipment and system failures
Analyzes, tests, calibrates, programs, and maintains records for electric meters
Coordinates annual meter testing with contractor, maintains records, and replaces outdated and damaged metering equipment
Prepares and ships equipment for repair and maintenance
Inspects the work of crews in the field to ensure proper installation and documentation
Analyzes data from the field and prepares reports related to transformer sizing and load data to design system changes or for a particular application
Installs recording equipment and prepares reports related to metering equipment accuracy and potential power quality issues
Inspects all substations and equipment involved with power management to ensure the system is operating as reliably and efficiently as possible, completes component repairs, and maintains records related to electric system demands
Completes testing, repairs, and maintains records of substation maintenance
Operates city generators to manage electrical loads. This includes, but is not limited to, performing repairs to genset, working with contractors/vendors to ensure generates are operating properly, maintaining records and submitting the documentation required for permit compliance
Performs electrical repairs to the city buildings as needed
Trains staff in the use and installation of equipment in metering, CT’s, PT’s, computer use, and SCADA use; operates, monitors, and maintains SCADA system for the electric system; works with consultants to perform upgrades and maintain operation of the SCADA system; assists other departments as needed in the repair and maintenance of SCADA systems; operates breakers and performs a variety of tasks using SCADA including 1-shots for all work on energized systems
Inspects contractors as needed and provides materials to contractors as required for specific projects
Works with the Department of Transportation on traffic lights and controls
Troubleshoots breaker operations, power quality issues, and power outage calls to ensure system reliability
Tests rubber goods and hot sticks, and orders and picks up material and equipment for department
Assists in the maintenance of right of ways, installation and replacement of electric lines, transformers, and other electrical components as required
May be required to work outside normal work hours in stand-by, on-call, emergency situations, or for the operation of generators with minimal prior notice
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED and extensive experience in electric line construction and maintenance including various types of metering and SCADA systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Possession of CPR and First Aid, Forklift, Flagging, Trenching and Shoring, and Competent Person certifications upon hire
Successfully complete Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue within 6 months of hire and each year thereafter
Completion of the following Electricities schools: Municipal Substation School, Distribution Regulator School, and Advanced Electric Meter School within 24 months of hire
Attend the NC Electric Meter School annually
Valid commercial driver's license in the State of North Carolina, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Enrollment and completion of Substation Career Development Program and Meter Technician Career Development Program
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools used in the erection and maintenance of electric lines
General knowledge of SCADA systems
General knowledge of substation operations
General knowledge of testing, calibrating, transformer/feeder loads, and other substation related activities
General knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of peak shaving generation and SCADA equipment
General knowledge of the principles of electricity as related to distribution, metering and SCADA systems
General knowledge of safety requirements and hazards connected with the work
Some knowledge of the national electric code
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment
Ability to understand and work from construction and wiring plans, blueprints, and diagrams
Ability to follow oral and written directions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public
