COMPOSITE/PLASTIC FABRICATOR

The Department of the Navy is seeking a Composite/Plastic Fabricator for the Rubber and Plastics Shop at TRIREFFAC Kings Bay. The role involves manufacturing and repairing a variety of plastic and rubber articles, preparing surfaces for installation, and applying paint to repaired items.

Responsibilities

You will manufacture and repair a variety of plastic and rubber articles
You will prepare surfaces prior to plastic/rubber installation
You will manufacture items made of thermoset plastics (model cast), including plaques, bunk vent screens
You will prepare surfaces for painting and apply paint to repaired items

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
This is a Mission Essential position
May be required to work at various heights from ladders, scaffolding, buckets, etc. as well as confined spaces such as trunks or tanks
May be required to work on nuclear systems and participate in RADCON activities as deemed necessary to meet management needs
Incumbent must maintain an IT_II Level Designation
Work aboard ships and submarines and within shops may require periods of standing, vertical climbing, stooping, crawling, and moving in and out of areas of close confinement
Light to moderate physical exertion will be required in lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifting objects up to 110 pounds with assistance

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job
Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible
Experience of plastic and related materials found on submarines
Experience with precision measuring equipment use in relation to manufacturing, repairing and replacing submarine rubber and plastic materials
Experience reading blueprints, specifications and technical documentation
Experience conducting Safety requirements and written processes for various Rubber & Plastic repairs and fabrication
Experience with proper rubber, paint and fiberglass removal techniques
Experience in preparation of metal and fiberglass surfaces for painting application
