Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Polymer Spinning Expert

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert for melt polymer spinning processes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize processes, improve product quality, and drive innovation.

Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert for polymer melt spinning processes, including polymer spinning precursor, spinneret design, extrusion mechanics, and fiber stabilization methods
Lead, set up, monitor, and maintain spinning process equipment, including spinnerets, pumps, winders, and ancillary systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency
Lead troubleshooting efforts for polymer spinning process and equipment issues, partnering with Maintenance and Reliability teams to ensure proper preventive maintenance practices
Identify and implement design improvements to spinning processes, supporting OEE advancement programs and capital expansion projects
Develop and deliver technical training for engineers and technicians, advancing team knowledge and skills
Act as a resource for Process FMEA documents, PHA reviews, and MOC approvals in a PSM-covered facility
Facilitate root cause analyses (RCA), propose solutions to complex manufacturing challenges, and drive process improvements
Support startup and commissioning activities for new process units, ensuring safe and efficient operations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost improvements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 5 years' experience in chemical manufacturing, with advanced skills in polymer rheology and polymer melt spinning processes
Preferred
Education: Minimum B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science from an accredited university
Greater than 10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing
Advanced skills in polymer rheology and polymer melt spinning processes (example: spinning experience in Carbon Pitch or other ceramic precursor polymers)
Experienced in extrusion of highly branched low molecular weight polymers, including gear pump and extrusion equipment
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (tools such as RCA, DMAIC, FMEA, Lean/Six Sigma)
Process controls knowledge and proficiency in data analysis tools for process monitoring and optimization
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with technicians, engineers, and upper management
Experience in PSM-covered facilities preferred
