Responsibilities
Provide oral and written advice on statutory and Constitutional interpretation and application of various worker protection laws
Advise the Bureau of Contract Administration’s implementation and enforcement of social policies required of City Contractors
Collaborate with Council offices throughout the legislative process, including legal analysis, drafting, and implementation of new ordinances
Assist on specialized litigation and administrative proceedings relating to enforcement of City ordinances in furtherance of combatting wage theft across the City
Advise on the Public Records Act, Ralph M. Brown Act, and liability assessment and risk management
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Valid license to practice law in all of the courts within the State of California
Minimum ten years of experience in the practice of law
Strong communication skills
Strong research and writing skills in complex areas of law
Demonstrated abilities to exercise sound judgment
Ability to work effectively with governmental agencies, public officials, departmental personnel, and members of the public
Licensed to practice law in all courts in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California
Preferred
Experience in wage and hour and employment litigation
Experience advising public administrative enforcement agencies
Experience in drafting local ordinances and knowledge of the City Charter
Civil litigation experience (minimum of two years preferred) and experience in quasi-judicial administrative hearings by public bodies
