Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor – Legal Information and Prosecutions Division

The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor to lead attorneys in the Legal Information and Prosecutions Division. The role involves overseeing municipal ordinance violations prosecution, managing litigation phases, and training Assistant Corporation Counsels while collaborating with various City departments.

Responsibilities

Lead attorneys in the Legal Information and Prosecutions Division
Collaborate closely with various City departments and officials
Handle all phases of litigation in own cases, including preparing pleadings and motions of varying complexity
Appear in court and administrative hearings
Conduct settlement conferences and manage discovery
Oversee Assistant Corporation Counsels in all phases of their assigned cases, training, and projects

Required

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in state and/or federal court
Superior research skills
Excellent logic skills and the ability to think, act, and prioritize quickly
Strong litigation skills, including trial experience
Exceptional client counseling and organizational skills
Superior communication skills (written/verbal)
Demonstrates use of sound judgment
The ability to work well with others
The ability to communicate well with others including groups, judiciary and high-level officials
Demonstrates leadership ability and initiative on assigned tasks
Demonstrates ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines

Preferred

At least three (3) years of experience handling matters involving governmental agencies
Experience in litigating on behalf of government agencies in state court and administrative hearings
Experience providing client counseling, including high level officials
Experience working with short deadlines
Experience working with the media
Experience supervising staff attorneys
Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705), good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission
