Unpaid Legal Intern (Summer 2026 Cohort)
New Jersey Courts is seeking students for their Unpaid Legal Intern Program’s Summer 2026 Cohort, providing a structured 9-week experience with Superior Court Judges. Selected candidates will engage in case processing and gain practical insights into the judicial process across various divisions.

Responsibilities
Learn many aspects of case processing and gain practical experience and valuable insight into the judicial process in our Civil, General Equity (Chancery), Criminal, and Family Divisions
Serve for the full duration of the summer program which will start on June 1, 2026, and conclude on July 31, 2026
Be onsite for a minimum of ten (10) hours per week during the program
Some travel within the multicounty vicinage is required as modules may be hosted in Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and Cape May Court House
Qualification

Students who are attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply
Selected candidates are expected to serve for the full duration of the summer program which will start on June 1, 2026, and conclude on July 31, 2026
Interns are expected onsite for a minimum of ten (10) hours per week during the program

Ideal candidates will be organized, detailed-oriented individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, legal research, and writing skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is helpful
Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position
Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching
The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds
Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position
Authorization to Work: Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations
Unpaid intern applicants who are 18 years of age or older must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting
Preferred
Satisfactory completion of one year of law school or current enrollment as a first-year law student with substantial legal writing experience is strongly preferred
While preference will be given to candidates who are available for the entire 9-week program, applicants with limited availability may be considered for shortened unpaid legal intern opportunities depending on space and operational needs
