IT Change Manager

ARUP Laboratories is a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory and an enterprise of the University of Utah. The IT Change Manager is responsible for governing, coordinating, and facilitating all IT changes, ensuring that changes to systems, infrastructure, and services are introduced in a controlled and secure manner while balancing agility and risk management.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of IT changes, ensuring consistent methods and standards across all change types
Chair or coordinate Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings to review and authorize proposed changes
Facilitate emergency change reviews for time-sensitive or high-impact activities
Maintain documentation, change records, and audit trails in compliance with governance and regulatory requirements
Evaluate proposed changes for risk, business impact, dependencies, and benefits with technical and business stakeholders
Apply risk-based approval criteria and ensure authorization levels for standard, normal, and emergency changes are followed
Monitor change outcomes; analyze failed or rolled-back changes; implement corrective actions to improve success rates
Collaborate with incident, problem, and release management teams to minimize change-related incidents and maintain service stability
Improve change processes to increase efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness
Integrate change practices with Agile, DevOps, and automation initiatives to support faster delivery while maintaining control
Produce and present change performance metrics, trends, and improvement recommendations to IT leadership
Champion a culture of collaboration, learning, and shared accountability across development, operations, and business functions
Advise IT and business leaders on change-related governance, risk, and policy compliance
Mentor and coach change coordinators and process participants to promote consistency and best practices
Communicate change schedules, risks, and user impacts clearly and on time to affected stakeholders
Build strong relationships across IT domains to align change activity with enterprise priorities

Required

Experience in IT change management processes and methodologies
Strong understanding of risk management and governance frameworks
Ability to lead and facilitate meetings, including Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings
Excellent communication skills to convey change schedules, risks, and impacts to stakeholders
Experience in collaborating with incident, problem, and release management teams
Ability to analyze change outcomes and implement corrective actions
Experience in producing and presenting performance metrics and improvement recommendations
Ability to mentor and coach team members on change management best practices
Strong relationship-building skills across IT domains
Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and automation initiatives
Ability to maintain documentation and audit trails in compliance with governance and regulatory requirements
Experience in evaluating proposed changes for risk, business impact, dependencies, and benefits
