The role involves working under the supervision of the Emergency Management Administrator to gain practical experience, assisting with preparedness activities, training, and participating in emergency management operations.

Responsibilities
Assist in the creation, maintenance and implementation of emergency management plans
Staff the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during real-world emergency activations
Experience and support Incident Command (IC) for large-scale and planned events
Provide hands-on logistical and resource support to various emergency response teams during EOC activations and times of normalcy
Develop and facilitate emergency management drills, exercises and preparedness programs
Assist in the maintenance of the City’s incident management and monitoring tools
Provide recommendations towards the City’s overall readiness and culture of preparedness
Research potential programs, policies and tools to augment the City’s emergency management capabilities
Prepare and maintain records for various emergency management functions and projects
Complete trainings and perform other duties as assigned by the Emergency Management Administrator or Administrative Director
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED is required for this role
Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in public safety
Declared major/minor within Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, Crisis Management or closely related field
Must be able to work various hours to include evenings, weekends, and overnight operations
Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment
Preferred
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of emergency management concepts and terminology
