Responsibilities

Inspect construction in City right-of-way and CIP projects for compliance with approved plans, permits, City Code, and engineering specs
Participate in DRC meetings; review plans and provide comments using ePlan software
Process engineering construction permits and document field inspection results
Coordinate with and inspect franchise utilities (gas, electric, cable, telephone)
Inspect public infrastructure projects (water, sewer, reuse, stormwater, roadway, bridges, sidewalks/curbing, parking areas, and marine/shoreline structures)
Work closely with project managers on multi-discipline CIP inspections (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
Support contractors by clarifying code/spec requirements; review cost estimates, permit fees, quantities, RFIs, and change orders
Perform substantial and final completion inspections, create punch lists, and verify as-built documentation
Complete other related duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required for Inspector I
Associate's degree required for Inspector II, with coursework in civil engineering, construction management, or related field
Bachelor's degree required in civil engineering, construction management, or related field for Inspector III
2–5 years of general construction inspection experience for Inspector I
5–10 years of general construction inspection experience for Inspector II
10+ years of general construction inspection experience for Inspector III
Certified General Contractor's License required for Inspector II
Certified General Contractor's License required for Inspector III
Valid Florida driver's license required
Knowledge of construction methods for buildings, utilities, roadways, drainage, and public works
Working knowledge of public works codes, regulations, specifications, and City ordinances
Ability to interpret engineering/architectural plans and construction documents (e.g., RFIs, change orders)
Strong recordkeeping, reporting, and presentation skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
Effective oral/written communication, sound technical judgment, and ability to enforce regulations fairly
Ability to maintain productive working relationships
Perform physically demanding outdoor work with exposure to weather and hazardous conditions (chemicals, explosives, mechanical/electrical hazards)
Regularly walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, see, and hear
Travel to multiple job sites and lift/carry up to 20 pounds

Preferred

Associate's degree preferred for Inspector I
Bachelor's degree preferred for Inspector II
Certified General Contractor's License preferred for Inspector I
