Responsibilities

Perform detailed engineering design with minimal supervision and contribute as part of the design team on a variety of projects

Handle permitting, route planning, and detailed fiber network design while collaborating with Senior Engineers on unique or complex assignments

Receive technical guidance on new design topics and ensure quality control through field inspections of fiber optic infrastructure

Dive into quality control (QC) for multiple utilities, handling QC design for both pre- and post-construction phases

Apply technical expertise to ensure projects meet all specifications, fully understanding the design requirements in your area

Lead small to medium or multi-discipline projects, guide Design Engineers and prepare detailed technical analyses

Share insights with the team and engage with stakeholders to grasp the nuances of each task

Communicate any challenges related to scope, cost, schedule, and quality to the Project Manager (PM)

Visit project sites and interact independently with clients, estimate proposals, and understand the role of business development in operations

Assist the Design Coordinator, evaluate design personnel and assign tasks to Designers and Drafters

Review vendor drawings, perform independent engineering reviews of simpler projects, and provide feedback

Offer input on potential process and design improvements

Ensure adherence to the quality control process, including documentation using the Quality Review Tracking tool

Self-check work before submission, complete tasks with minimal errors, and participate in peer and QC reviews

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from ABET accredited university

4–6 years of experience in utility design or demonstrated equivalent job knowledge

Knowledge of joint use applications

Strong understanding of permitting, route planning, and fiber infrastructure field inspections

Ability to be a leader and build relationships with clients and staff members

Preferred

Experience with fiber network design and construction preferred

Electrical engineering preferred
