Dallas Independent School District is seeking a Network Technician responsible for repairing and programming radio communication systems. The role involves troubleshooting, maintaining inventory, and providing emergency network support for police dispatch and staff communication systems.

Responsibilities
Repairing radios - This includes troubleshooting to the component level for Motorola and Kenwood handheld portable and radios mobiles
Troubleshooting repeaters and controllers. Troubleshooting and repairing police and staff radio communication systems
Programming radios - This includes programming of Motorola and Kenwood, mobiles, and handheld portables
Battery maintenance - This includes the reconditioning of batteries and replacement as needed
Ordering, distributing, and maintaining an inventory of parts and equipment - This includes the ordering of vendor equipment, distribution of equipment and maintaining an accurate inventory of all equipment ordered, distributed, and onhand
Communicating with the end users - This involves active listening skills, follow through on commitments, and proactively updating end users on on the status of their requests
Maintaining Police Dispatch - Responsible for emergency off-hours network support as needed. Troubleshoot and repair police and staff radio communication systems. Coordinate and install various police and staff radio communications and related systems
Performs all other related tasks and duties as assigned - Including but not limited to troubleshooting and identifying modular components within trunking system for warranty replacement, inspection and surveying building structure to determine the means, materials, and labor requirements necessary to install radio communication systems, coordinate and perform preventive maintenance on communication systems in radio towers as needed to run at optimal performance, and design for RF propagation at new or renovation construction sites
Qualification
Required
Repairing radios - This includes troubleshooting to the component level for Motorola and Kenwood handheld portable and radios mobiles

Must have basic computer skills
Must have a knowledge of basic radio programming software
Must possess a basic knowledge of DC circuits and schematic component symbols
Requires an ability to work at heights over 20 feet
Must be able to work in stressful environments
Experience with computer aided dispatch radio solutions
Understanding and knowledge of conventional analog and digital repeater systems as well as digital trunking systems
Ability to install mobile radios in various vehicles
Ability to read schematics
Ability to solder and de-solder micro-components
Must have a knowledge of characteristics and installation of various coax and connectors
Must have a knowledge of IP based radio products and systems
Must have a knowledge of P25 Phase 2
Must possess an understanding of FCC rules and regulations
Requires a minimum of 2 years, of hands-on related radio experience and a deep understanding of radio concepts and repair
