This one-year intensive research experience focuses on biomedical research and clinical mentorship, providing scholars with hands-on involvement in clinical and research projects under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Responsibilities
Research coordination, in-depth training in research protocol development, screening and consenting subjects, interviewing subjects for various protocols, and collecting data into a database
Training in the interpretation and dissemination of scientific data and results to a wide audience through journal-club discussions
High level training in didactic and discussion formats in biostatistics and epidemiology including:
Collection, manipulation, and cleaning of research data
Primary biostatistics tests utilized in clinical research
Performing literature reviews, understanding dynamics of disease transmission, measures of morbidity and mortality
Observational and experimental study designs and implementation including: cross-sectional, case-control, cohort, and ecological studies as well as randomized clinical trials, meta-analysis, and big data/artificial intelligence
Analysis and prevention of bias and error in clinical research, techniques in causal inference
Hands-on involvement in initial development of at least 2 novel projects from conception including the development of research protocols, literature review, creation of data collection/consent forms, involvement with internal review board (IRB) approval, as well as consenting and following patients through the projects
Additional hands-on experience in other projects at various stages to provide experience as a research coordinator consenting patients and collecting study variables, as an analyst cleaning and analyzing data and producing a final project suitable for presentation at a major scientific meeting or submitted for publication in a scientific journal
Provide basics of coronary artery atherosclerosis, cardiac structure and function, overview of indications and pathology, assessing ischemia, assessing for amyloid, introduction to ECG, and arrhythmias device indications and management
Learn equipment, fundamentals, anatomy, scanning techniques, contrast agents, plane manipulation, hemodynamics in Cardiac Imaging-CT, MRI, Echocardiography, Nuclear PET
Catheterization lab, coronary anatomy, imaging, OCT, IVUS, iFR measurements in Interventional Cardiology
TAVR, Mitraclip, Watchman procedures in Structural Cardiology
CABG, Valvular heart surgery in Cardiac Surgery
Patient care and interventions in Heart Failure
Experience in specialties including, electrophysiology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, renal, internal medicine, and working with hospitalists
Qualification
Required
Intensive research experience focusing on biomedical research and clinical mentorship activities
Ability to design and implement multiple types of clinical research and population health studies
Experience in research coordination, including protocol development, screening and consenting subjects, and data collection
Training in the interpretation and dissemination of scientific data and results
High level training in biostatistics and epidemiology
Hands-on involvement in the development of novel research projects
Experience in collecting study variables and analyzing data
Knowledge of coronary artery atherosclerosis, cardiac structure and function
Understanding of cardiac imaging techniques including CT, MRI, Echocardiography, and Nuclear PET
Familiarity with interventional cardiology procedures and techniques
Knowledge of cardiac surgery procedures including CABG and valvular heart surgery
Experience in patient care and interventions related to heart failure
