Section Chief, Insurance & Utilities Regulatory Section
Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Section Chief for the Insurance & Utilities Regulatory Section. The role involves supervising a team of attorneys and managing complex legal cases related to consumer interests in utility regulation and insurance, while providing legal advice to the Attorney General.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Supervising and administering the day-to-day operation of the Insurance and Utilities Regulatory Section consisting of three attorneys and two support staff
Representing the interests of the people of Virginia as consumers in proceedings before the Virginia State Corporation Commission
Handling appeals to the Supreme Court of Virginia
Managing legislative matters before Virginia General Assembly
Engaging in federal administrative matters at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Participating in stakeholder activities at the PJM Interconnection regional transmission organization
Acting as lead litigation attorney on matters involving primarily electric, natural gas, and water utilities
Conducting regulatory work with insurance companies and the SCC’s Bureau of Insurance
Providing advice and assistance to the Attorney General on various matters related to the regulation of these industries
Qualification
Required
Applicants must have the demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex cases and to lead a professional team of attorneys in complex legal disciplines
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant litigation experience with a background in accounting, economics, finance, and/or engineering
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are required
All applicants must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar
