Public Works Equipment Operator or Senior - Utility Operations

Responsibilities

Participates in routine construction, repair, and routine maintenance tasks, repairs City streets and sidewalks
Inspects, cleans, and maintains vehicles and equipment
Calculates the amount of materials needed for tasks
Services water mains, taps, and valves; paints fire hydrants
Performs traffic control around work sites
Cuts trees and brush; remove brush, debris, and trash from streets, right-of-ways, and storm drains
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
Sets up job sites; verifies work area is secured with the proper use of cones and barricades
Loads and unloads tractors
Services water mains, taps, and valves; paints and flushes fire hydrants; checks manholes; raises meter boxes
May assist in training and leading the work activities of others

Required

Operation and maintenance of equipment; routine construction, repair, and maintenance methods; basic safety standards and practices for the operation of tools and equipment
Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
Operating light equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of assigned functional operations
Two (2) years of experience in construction which included operation of light equipment
Texas Class A commercial driver's license prior to employment
Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check
Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, streets, and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets
Strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, and to operate varied hand tools, power tools, and equipment
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment
Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance and repairs
Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment

Preferred

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Additional Water/ Wastewater certifications as required

Chose of working 4, 10 hour days, or 5, 8 hour days, opportunity for over-time
$175 annual boot allowance and $175 annual jean allowance after successful completion of six (6) month probation
