Research Engineer, Biomedical Engineering

Advocate Aurora Health is a leading nonprofit integrated health system in the United States, and they are seeking a Research Engineer in Biomedical Engineering to join their research team at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to biomechanics research, supporting experimental data collection, human subject studies, and computational research and development within the Center for Injury Biomechanics.

Responsibilities

Support experimental biomechanics data collection, human subject studies, and computational research and development
Lead laboratory experiments, data collection, and analysis using standard and customized testing platforms
Lead technical aspects related to the design of human subject-based research studies, such as anthropometric or image data collection
Assist with IRB preparation
Lead on site data collection for recruited volunteers
Use finite element analysis (FEA) tools and related software to support extramurally funded research, and to generate pilot data for new research
Pre-process FEA simulations using commercial software
Analyze FEA simulation results using commercial software
Perform segmentation and other quantitative analysis on medical image data, including CT and MRI
Interface with sponsors, colleagues, and collaborators at national and international conferences
Participate in regular project update meetings
Assist writing technical reports and manuscripts

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, plus two years of biomechanics research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and engineering experience (e.g. a Master's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in mechanical testing, data collection, instrumentation, and related laboratory techniques
Proficiency in CAE tools and computational model development from medical imaging
Experience with finite element analysis and pre- and post-processing capabilities using Matlab or Python
Strong mathematical background and experience using large datasets and advanced statistical methods
Works well within a team environment, comfortable working with volunteer studies for biomechanical data collection
