Responsibilities

Evaluating the patients' present functional levels and disabilities
Modifying treatment in response to variances to provide optimal care for each patient referred for physical medicine and rehabilitation services
Evaluating and making recommendations to improve safety in the veteran's home environment
Demonstrating knowledge of contemporary and evidence based OT practice
Interpreting clinician prescriptions and referrals
Communicating with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate the multidisciplinary treatment process
Utilizing appropriate screening and evaluation techniques to provide direct patient care
Performing Home Safety Evaluations
Documenting physical findings and changes in medical status via progress notes
Maintaining documentation according to PMR service-level and Medical Center-wide policies
Performing ancillary assignments, including program management duties
Supervising and delegating care of patients to the Physical Therapist Assistant as appropriate
Offering feedback during supervision and completing evaluations during the internship period for assigned student affiliates
Maintaining knowledge with The Joint Commission and CARF standards

Must be proficient in written and spoken English

Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Must possess a current NBCOT certification as an OT
Must possess a full, current, and unrestricted state license, to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field
Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy
Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and techniques consistent with current clinical standards based on OT theory and evidence based practice
Ability to collaborate and communicate orally and in writing with all internal and external stakeholders
Ability to use critical analysis, clinical reasoning, and creativity to independently solve complex problems related to adapting and modifying assessments, treatment plans, activities and procedures to meet the needs of patients
Skill in procuring, fabricating, adjusting, adapting, and modifying orthoses, splints, and adaptive equipment for activities of daily living (inclusive of durable medical equipment)
Ability to conduct OT related in-service and clinical training
