PAYROLL SPECIALIST I - CENTRAL PAYROLL OFFICE (1240)

NEOGOV is seeking a Payroll Specialist I to assist with payroll processing within Jefferson Parish. The role involves verifying payroll data, training Payroll Clerks, and managing various personnel forms related to payroll and benefits.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance and information to district Payroll Clerks concerning payroll processing problems parish wide including Payroll Clerk training on payroll processes
Verify all payroll times and attendance
Receive, enter, verify and confirm payroll data submitted to the Payroll Department
Receive and process a variety of Parish Personnel forms relative to class changes, transfers, increases, promotions, demotions, terminations, etc
Establish new employee payroll records, by reviewing Human Resources new hire entries as well as entering information for benefit selections, tax withholding options, and direct deposit information
Receive, balance, and set up monthly insurance premium payments for coverage offered by the parish
Review, research and balance all transactions, invoice receipts, reports, spreadsheets, summaries of statements, balance procedures and clearing discrepancies concerning fees and payments working with the insurance companies and the Benefits Department
Accurately interpret and enter employee information related to benefit deductions, federal and state tax withholdings, raises, class employment updates, retirement contributions, direct deposit setup and requested changes
Assist Non-Employees regarding employment verification
Monitor the Payroll email inbox
Communicate effectively with internal and external parties both in writing and verbally

Required

Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish AND at least two (2) years of experience in a J.P. position with primary responsibility for reviewing, inputting, and retrieving accounting/financial data, or employee data related to payroll, time and attendance, benefits, or retirement, in the AS/400
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent AND at least two (2) years of paid work experience in a position primarily responsible for electronic payroll data-entry and processing
