Responsibilities

Design Industrial Building Automation Controls projects to meet scope of work and budget as defined by contract documents and sales estimate ensuring equipment compatibility
Provide AutoCAD/Visio Climatec Design Tool labor and direction as required to complete submittals and other engineered documents accurately and professionally
Interpret project documents, estimate, and other information as available to select the proper equipment to achieve the scope of work required in the most effective and functional manner
Provide detailed sequence of operations as required
Complete Bill of Material for every design project
Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook electronic e-mail system
Maintain clear documentation of design systems, wiring diagrams and software configurations
Communicate with internal employees as required to ensure engineering is accurate and timely
Highly experienced in Design Specialist Level I position
Provide mentoring and direct day-to-day supervision to level 1 positions
Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio CDT
Ability to design large projects with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices
Develop system designs for BAS, including load calculations, equipment selection, and integration of various control systems
Assist Sales team during estimation/bid phase of the project by providing design support
Collaborate with Project Managers to assist in generating Request for Information (RFIs) to clarify design issues and recommend appropriate solutions as necessary
Independently complete all specific design responsibilities with minimal supervision
Accurately forecast necessary labor required to design a complete project and track this over time to achieve budget and forecast goals
Provide support for ongoing service engineering and support for existing building systems
Suggest/recommend new products that provide better functionality and value to projects
As assigned develop and maintain a library of engineering standards for both Climatec and the industry
Facilitate with external customers/vendors as required to ensure accurate and timely engineering
Assist in managing the timeline, budget, and coordination of projects
Provide support to Climatec and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the control’s operation

Required

Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related technical field. Prior work experience in the building automation field can supersede a degree
3+ years of experience in HVAC, building automation
Experience with AutoCAD and/or Visio
Basic understanding of computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Experience designing, and engineering HVAC control systems, including developing sequence of operations and equipment selection
Proficiency with reading and creating layout drawings to guide system installation (e.g., sensor locations, panel placement)
Ability to develop Bills of Material (BOM)
Proficiency of Autocad and/or Visio for BAS Design
Familiarity with generating and managing RFIs (Requests for Information) to resolve design issues
Strong understanding of project documents, scopes of work, and the ability to interpret contract drawings and specifications
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical plans
The ability to read electrical wiring diagrams
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate and resolve issues empathetically and professionally

Preferred

Master's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related technical field. Extensive (10+ years' experience) work experience in the building automation field can supersede a degree
7+ years of experience in HVAC, building automation
Thorough understanding of HVAC operations, particularly within commercial or industrial facilities
Assisting in project estimation, budgeting, and scheduling for BAS components
Proposing cost-effective technical solutions
Experience interacting with external stakeholders, such as consulting engineers, contractors, and building owners
Experience maintaining or contributing to internal standards, libraries, or best practices for system design and engineering
Background in both design and ongoing support/service engineering for installed building systems
