Responsibilities

Define and lead the architecture and design of complex, cross-functional features within the instrument data ecosystem
Drive technical roadmaps for key software components of instrument data capture, processing, and distribution, aligning closely with the Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) goals
Set and enforce high technical standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and performance, serving as a mentor to engineers across the capability
Lead the investigation and resolution of critical, large-scale distributed system issues
Serve as a senior technical expert when collaborating with Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) scientists, the Data and Digital Catalyst (DDC) organization, and other engineering teams
Be accountable for delivering scalable and reliable instrument data integration projects

Required

B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 7+ years of progressive experience in Biotech/Pharma, focused on architecting and deploying scalable software systems for scientific research
Demonstrated record of outstanding performance through technical leadership and deep, hands-on technical contributions
Expert technical knowledge of principles related to distributed systems, data engineering, software architecture, cloud-native architectures, and system design
Must possess the ability to define high-level technical architecture and execute complex technical work
Expert-level proficiency in Python and deep working knowledge of either Java or C#
Deep knowledge of lab workflows is essential
Extensive direct experience interfacing with a variety of scientific laboratory instruments (e.g., liquid handlers, plate readers, microscopes, mass spectrometers)
Expert level technical background in cloud-native architectures (ideally AWS)
