Application Engineer - Print

Barry-Wehmiller is a diversified global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology for the packaging and converting industries. The Application Engineer will assess customer technical requirements and collaborate with cross-functional teams to configure solutions, while also developing technical documentation and Bills of Materials for accurate customer quotations.

Responsibilities

Evaluate customer requirements and determine configurable solutions, providing technical options that ensure customer needs can be met
Deliver accurate and timely feedback to Commercial Operations team members on detailed BOMs, proposals, contracts, technical cost sheets, machine capabilities, and equipment checkout/testing requirements
Serve as a liaison between Commercial Operations and Engineering departments
Create floor plan layouts, concept drawings, and configurable designs for proposed equipment solutions
Contribute to improving methodologies, standards, and efficiencies within the Applications department
Travel to customer sites, sister facilities, and trade shows as required
Read, create, and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documents
Provide technical support and training materials for Operations, Sales, and other internal teams
Initiate risk analysis activities during the proposal phase
Assist with evaluation and reporting of customer-specific samples and materials during the sales cycle
Release configurable designs to Operations for execution
Collaborate with Product Line Managers to maintain quoting tools and sales enablement resources
Perform additional tasks as directed

Required

Bachelor's degree in engineering plus OEM capital equipment or packaging machinery
Experience using CAD systems, including solid modeling tools
Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and/or electrical control systems
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated technical writing capabilities
Strong verbal communication skills

Preferred

Minimum of 2 years' experience as an Applications Engineer or similar technical role, ideally in an OEM machinery environment
Experience evaluating customer-specific materials and samples during the sales cycle
Working knowledge of manufacturing capital equipment
Proficiency in SolidWorks
Experience using ERP systems
