Detonation Physics Postdoctoral Research Associate
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate for the Shock and Detonation Physics Group as part of the SPARC program with the University of Michigan. The role involves developing computational tools for simulating shocks and detonations, and fostering expertise in numerical simulations related to explosives and compressible flows.

Responsibilities
Develop new computational tools for the simulation and analysis of shocks/detonations within compressible flow regimes
Develop physics-based models and simulation capabilities
Develop novel AI/ML capabilities within this field
Foster expertise in the numerical simulation of condensed-phase and gaseous explosives, high-speed compressible flows, verification and validation, and modeling of both complex and idealized reactive flows
Qualification
Required
A Ph.D. in Computational Science, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics
Background in high-speed compressible flow physics of gaseous and/or condensed phase materials
Proficiency in Python, modern Fortran, and/or C++
Strong record of publications commensurate with experience
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires US Citizenship
A Ph.D. in Computational Science, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics completed within the last five years or soon to be completed
Preferred
Experience with numerical simulation of detonating flows and energetics
Experience with the development of reactive flow models
Experience with subscale modeling approaches in reactive flows
Experience in parametrization of gaseous and condense-phased explosive constitutive models
Experience with experimental optimization and design
Experience with machine-learning techniques for data analysis
