Field Testing Specialist

Responsibilities

Operate and perform basic maintenance of standard agricultural and specialized research equipment. This includes tractors, planters, sprayers, and combines
Plan and coordinate with vendors as necessary to ensure that equipment is field ready
Conduct field experiments according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate
Effective and timely communication with coworkers, managers, and stakeholders
Manage and direct the work of seasonal employees as necessary
Assist with planting, spraying, pollinating, and combine/hand harvest. These are critical times for the success of the research center, so weekend work and overtime will be required at these times
Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment
Maintain and ensure proper policies are being upheld through compliance record keeping and documentation

Qualification

Agronomy experiencePlant Breeding experiencePesticide applicator licenseMicrosoft Office proficiencySafety orientedPhysical lifting abilityFlexibility to work weekendsCommunication skills

Required

High school diploma/GED with 2-4 years of experience in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, or a scientific-related field OR Associate's or Bachelor's in agriculture or scientific field with 0-4 years' experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices
Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software
Handling of large volumes of data will be required
Will be required to do physical lifting and work outdoors in varying weather and ergonomic environments and tolerate personal protective equipment
Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds
Flexibility to work extended days and weekends at critical times of the season
Some overnight stays required
Driver's License, acceptable driving record, and ability to drive medium-duty trucks and trailers (10,000-25,999 GVWR)
Ability to obtain appropriate pesticide applicator license/certification
