Intake Youth Development Professional

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo is committed to providing youth development opportunities and is seeking an Intake Youth Development Professional. The primary responsibility is to serve as the first point of contact at Club locations, leading the intake process and maintaining accurate member records while also supporting Club activities as needed.

Responsibilities

Lead the intake process using MyClubHub member management system to check all members in and out of the facility, maintain timely and accurate membership records and emergency contact information, take attendance, run reports, and assist parents and guardians with completing Membership and Update forms
Monitor the front entrance to ensure all guests sign in and out of the facility. Perform receptionist duties, such as answering the phone, directing calls, taking messages, and greet all Club members and visitors in a positive and welcoming manner. Identify and introduce members and staff, assist staff with recognition of parents and guardians
Oversee pickup and drop off times to ensure new members are safely entering and leaving the building, ensure only designated people are picking up members, and assist members in getting to their proper classroom
Provide the public, including potential members, with information regarding Club membership, orientations, programs, and activities
Assist Unit Manager with distributing and collecting field trip permission forms, special event announcements, notifications of Club closings, targeted programs, and enter information into MyClubHub. Ensure that all members have equal access to this information
Be cross trained to fill in for YDPs as needed to lead High-Yield Activities that are age appropriate and provide youth with social-emotional and educational skill development. This also may include facilitating special programs and/or events
Be welcoming and provide youth with a fun, high-energy experience with positive engagement. Help set and maintain a culture of fun that is infused with everything we do
Help with reaching Unit goals around youth development quality and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) by assessing Club members’ social-emotional behaviors. Provide opportunities and activities that strengthen SEL need areas
Have a working understanding of Club activities, programs, intake, and outcome-driven youth development methods
Ensure a healthy, productive environment that supports positive peer and adult relationships through physical and emotional safety
Set clear expectations and model to youth what you want to see from them
Enforce Club Managing Member Behavior Policy, which includes Positive Behavior Support, AntiBullying and Trauma-Informed Care protocols as well as using reframing conflict and deescalating tools
Practice National Youth Outcome Initiatives (NYOI) and Weikart methods as well as participate in the Youth Program Quality Intervention and Assessment (YPQA) process to plan and improve overall program practices
Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the Club space
Comply with mandated reporting policies
Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as instruction and training tools for the responsibilities of this job as needed
Assist with planning and implementation of Club-wide special events, including fundraisers as requested as well as outreach opportunities
Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings and/or trainings
Must wear a Boys & Girls Club staff uniform during working hours. Dress in a professional manner conducive to working with youth in a recreational program and at special events
Foster an inclusive, equitable, and accountable environment, embracing the culture and community we serve with sensitivity across racial, class and cultural lines
Display professional and positive behavior in alignment with the Boys & Girls Club Personnel Policy and Standards of Conduct, abiding by agency policies and practices with a high level of professionalism and customer service
Review and familiarize oneself with the Boys & Girls Club Safety Policies and Crisis Management Plan. Respond to crisis situations in accordance with the outlined plan

Required

Must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
One year of experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organization with experience working with diverse populations
One year of experience with data entry and general receptionist duties is required
Experience creating, implementing, and facilitating educational and recreational activities for small groups of all ages that are creative, fun, engaging, and inclusive
Strong computer and data entry skills with detail orientation and high level of accuracy and ability to teach others and aptitude to learn new software as needed
Demonstrated ability in working with youth, parents/guardians, and other staff
Ability to effectively interact with members, including addressing discipline problems in age appropriate and non-punitive ways
Enthusiastic about working with and engaging youth
Ability to plan and execute a wide range of programs for youth of all ages that are creative, fun, and engaging
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Continuing required training as needed
Demonstrated ability to work as a team and promote a team culture
Must have access to reliable transportation
Ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds at one time

Preferred

Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
