Grounds Technician

Bethel University is a leader in Christ-centered higher education, and they are seeking a Grounds Technician to lead year-round campus grounds maintenance and projects. The role includes executing turf maintenance programs, participating in snow removal, and maintaining irrigation systems.

Higher Education

Responsibilities

Executes specialized turf and grass maintenance programs for all non-athletic turf areas
Participates in snow and ice removal and control
Performs routine lawn mowing, trimming and edging for all non-athletic turf
Performs regular grounds maintenance and projects
Maintains and repairs all irrigation systems for non-athletic turf areas
Executes all projects pertaining to campus groundcovers, flowers, shrubs and trees
Assists with the maintenance and repair of all campus hardscapes
Assist with maintenance on grounds equipment and spaces

Required

Ability to successfully manage multiple projects
Working knowledge of the equipment, products, and techniques used in preparing soils for, propagating, cultivating, pruning, maintaining, irrigating, and controlling pests for groundcovers, turf grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees
Working knowledge of common pesticides and chemicals
Working knowledge of the equipment, products, and techniques used in the management of high-input sand-based sports turf, and the ability to identify and create solutions for common sports turf problems, diseases, and pests
Working knowledge of the equipment, products, and techniques used in landscape and hardscape installation, maintenance, and repair
Basic knowledge of general grounds management issues in the Upper Midwest including: storm water management, invasive species management (in particular buckthorn and other noxious weeds), the management of natural areas, and wetland/watershed management
Working knowledge of the equipment, products, and techniques used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pavements including asphalt roads, paths, and parking lots; concrete curbs, sidewalks, and stairs; and permeable paver systems
Extensive knowledge of the equipment, products, and techniques commonly used in snow and ice control operations in the upper Midwest
Working knowledge of and ability to operate medium to heavy duty grounds maintenance vehicles and equipment
Working knowledge and ability to operate of small grounds maintenance tools and powered equipment
Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals
Must possess strong organizational skills
Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred

2+ years of related experience is preferred, but not required
Minnesota non-commercial pesticide applicator's license or willingness to get licensed. Bethel will pay for the license
