Integration Engineer
SmarterDx is a technology company focused on transforming healthcare through clinical AI. They are seeking a Senior Integration Engineer to lead the design and development of integrations between their platform and hospital EHR systems, ensuring data integrity and interoperability compliance.

Responsibilities
Lead the integration design, development, and validation of robust, scalable interfaces between SmarterDx and hospital/health system customer EHRs (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc) during the implementation process
Collaborate directly with health system IT stakeholders (Directors of IT, interface engineers, network engineers) and operational leads (Directors of CDI and Coding) to understand integration capabilities and requirements and translate them into technical solutions in order to launch SmarterDx products quickly and effectively
Manage end-to-end integration workflows, including specification development, interface mapping, configuration, testing, and go-live support
Lead data validation and reconciliation processes to ensure data integrity and interoperability compliance
Partner with engineering and new product teams to advise on data integration methodologies and develop schema mapping, data transformation logic, implementation guides, and operational support processes
Improve operational efficiency through automating workflows, optimizing code, and streamlining processes
Troubleshoot complex integration issues in production environments
Monitor and advise on evolving interoperability standards; ensure that SmarterDx and our clients continue to leverage best in class integration approaches
Qualification
Required
3-5+ years of hands-on HL7v2 build experience with Rhapsody (if your x-intercept is lower, then your y-slope is steep)
5+ years building, deploying, and supporting hospital based HL7v2 interfaces in healthcare environments, with a demonstrated ability to interpret, develop, and transform HL7v2 messages and experience leveraging HIPAA-compliant secure data exchange protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTPS, OAuth2, mTLS, VPN, and SFTP
Proven ability to lead collaborative discussions across diverse stakeholder groups- including health system IT leaders (Directors of IT, interface and network engineers) and non-technical users- to align on integration goals, workflows, and requirements
Adept at translating HL7v2 message flows, FHIR API interactions, and data mapping logic into business-impact language and supporting documentation to build trust and secure stakeholder alignment
Hands-on experience in languages like JavaScript or Python for message transformation or workflow automation
Excellent debugging skills and a systematic approach to root cause analysis
Experience fostering confidence in implementations by clearly outlining timelines, risk mitigation strategies, and success metrics in plain terms
Autonomy and the confidence to drive process improvements throughout times of ambiguity and changing priorities
Preferred
Experience enabling FHIR R4 APIs/resources, and SMART on FHIR workflows
Deep knowledge of hospital workflows, clinical data structures, and revenue cycle data flows
Deep subject matter expertise in semantic interoperability standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, and RxNorm
Background in clinical informatics or certified health IT credentials (e.g., HL7 Certified Specialist, FHIR Proficient, Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or EHR certifications)
Experience using SQL queries to retrieve, filter, and analyze data for validation and troubleshooting
Participation in HL7 or FHIR working groups or contributions to open-source healthcare integration tools
A background in healthcare consulting or sales engineering
