Assistant District Attorney: FOIL and Civil Litigation Unit

Responsibilities

Assist in the day-to-day functioning of the FOIL and Civil Litigation Unit
Respond to federal and state court subpoenas including the drafting of detailed privilege logs
Respond to Article 78 petitions and appeals from Article 78 petitions related to the denial of records under the Freedom of Information Law
Review FOIL determinations drafted by paralegals, review redactions to disclosable records, and draft and send out FOIL determinations in a timely manner
Represent the Office at court appearances and/or oral arguments in response to civil subpoenas or in response to Art. 78 petitions related to FOIL requests
Coordinate and assist the New York City Law Department in responding to discovery requests for civil suits alleging 1983 and Monell claims in state and/or federal court

Required

Have at least three years of experience as a New York State prosecutor
Have strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to multi-task, comply with short deadlines, handle a high volume of cases, and be detail oriented
Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and have strong organization and project management skills
United States citizenship is required of all Assistant District Attorneys upon commencement of their employment
New York State residency is required

Preferred

Civil litigation experience is not required, but beneficial
