Principal Specialist, Industrial Engineer (Onsite)
Collins Aerospace is a leader in aerospace and defense, seeking a Principal Specialist, Industrial Engineer to join their team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The engineer will oversee manufacturing operations, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance production processes.

Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and maintain manufacturing process documentation including standard work, process flows, layouts, and work instructions
Perform labor time studies, capacity modeling, and bottleneck analysis to support staffing plans, factory readiness, and production rate increases
Lead and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities using structured problem-solving tools and data analysis
Monitor performance metrics (yield, defects, productivity, cycle time) to identify improvement opportunities across CCA, sub-assembly, and radio-level production
Partner with design engineering to drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) improvements and ensure manufacturing requirements are incorporated into new designs and changes
Support capital equipment planning, evaluation, and implementation for electronics manufacturing processes (e.g., soldering, reflow, AOI, coating)
Lead Lean/continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve flow in a high-mix, low-volume environment
Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace and electronics standards (e.g., AS9100, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Experience in an aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of electronics assembly processes (SMT, hand solder, reflow, sub-assembly build, adhesives, conformal coatings)
Demonstrated proficiency in time studies, capacity analysis, and process optimization
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Experience in Solidworks, CAD, or similar programs
Preferred
Experience supporting factory operations in a high-mix, low-volume environment
Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
Experience with SAP or other ERP systems
Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
