Lead, Leadership Academies (Program Management Specialist II)

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) aims to improve outcomes for all public-school students in Texas by providing leadership and support to school systems. The Lead of Leadership Academies will oversee the planning, development, and execution of various academy cohorts to build systems-level leadership in aspiring superintendents and ensure high-quality development experiences.

Responsibilities

Lead facilitators and manage systems for tracking their program impact on district leadership outcomes and talent pipelines. Proactively recruit leaders for upcoming cohorts and broader pipeline development, deliver informational sessions and pitches, manage full application and selection process, effectively onboard leaders, and continue to engage with leaders one-on-one to ensure progress and support
Manage high quality event operations, logistics, and delivery in partnership with key internal and external partners. This includes both in-person convenings such as learning labs, site visits, and other experiences as well as virtual convenings such as monthly virtual sessions. Manage communications with participants as well as key internal and external partners
Supervise key internal and external partners/facilitators to effectively build and deliver content for Leadership Academy; in addition to Leadership Academy itself, deliver key content in trainer of trainer or direct delivery format to other critical programs – e.g., Texas Strategic Leadership, Monitor and Conservator Development, etc
Oversee systems to collect, track, and periodically reflect on key metrics gauging competency development of Leadership Academy participants, trainer delivery effectiveness. Lead reflections across stakeholder groups and take management action to pivot approach based on data

Required

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
At least five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following: managing large, complex programs; serving in a school or district leadership role; building and delivering executive-level content and training; managing technical assistance providers; or coordinating operations and event management
Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military
Track record of success as a district or campus leader in achieving strong student academic outcomes
Track record of success implementing research-based best practices such as high-quality instructional materials adoption, instructional leadership, strategic staffing and compensation, and college, career, and military preparation pathways
Excellent content development and facilitation with senior executive leaders such as superintendents
Track record of success managing multiple stakeholders towards ambitious, shared vision and goals by setting clear expectations and holding others accountable for performance
Strong coaching and capacity-building skills to help all stakeholders perform effectively
Highly organized with strong planning and project management skills; ability to balance the demands of multiple projects at different stages of development while maintaining quality and consistency across all work
Problem-solving orientation, with an ability to break down complex information into component parts, ask questions, synthesize, and analyze
Ability to build relationships and strong rapport with others, and an ability to manage relationships with senior district and internal agency stakeholders
Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, collaborative environment
Critical thinking and problem solving with the ability to break down complex information into comprehensive parts and communicate them
Success leveraging different strategies and interpersonal skills to move the work forward, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability when presented with a change of course or deadline
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to give, receive and implement critical feedback
