Sr. Tax Manager
Matrix Finance and Accounting is a growing CPA firm seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join their team of tax professionals. The role involves leading and managing multiple tax engagements while developing strategies to help clients minimize tax liabilities and achieve their financial goals.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage multiple tax engagements, including compliance, planning, and advisory for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates
Review complex tax returns, estimates, and filings, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws
Develop and implement tax strategies to help clients minimize liabilities and achieve financial goals
Serve as the primary point of contact for a group of assigned clients, building strong, long-term relationships
Identify and resolve complex tax issues; research and prepare technical memoranda as needed
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and managers to ensure high-quality work and professional growth
Collaborate with firm leadership to identify opportunities for expanding client services and support business development initiatives
Manage engagement economics—staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and billing—to achieve profitable results
Stay current on tax regulations, legislative changes, and industry trends to provide proactive guidance to clients
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required)
7–10 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with proven expertise reviewing complex tax returns and managing client engagements
Demonstrated success in supervising and mentoring staff, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously
Active CPA license required; JD/LLM or MST a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills with a client service mindset
Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and (preferred) multi-state taxation
Ability to work collaboratively, lead by example, and thrive during peak busy seasons
Strong computer proficiency (Windows, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat) with the ability to adapt to new systems
Preferred
Graduate degree in Taxation preferred
Experience with tax research tools (e.g., Checkpoint RIA) and tax software (UltraTax, Onvio, Tic-Tie-Calculate, or similar)
