The Dudley Materials Science Engineering Summer Intern will support material and process engineers, assist in researching new materials, and help develop manufacturing processes for ophthalmic lenses.

Responsibilities

Support material and process engineers with active projects

Assist in researching new materials, technologies, and potential alternatives for ophthalmic lens

Conduct physical, chemical, and optical characterization of these materials and assemblies

Help develop manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion compounding, film lamination, etc), and assist in troubleshooting production issues

Maintain and organize material data sheets, test reports, and process documentation

Attend project meetings and provide updates to cross functional partners

Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Required

Seeking a degree in Material Science and/or Engineering, Polymer Science and/or Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. required on the first day of employment

Knowledge on polymers, analytical techniques (thermal, optical, mechanical) and plastics manufacturing processes (injection molding, extrusion compounding, lamination, 3D printing)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams

Self-starter, self-motivated, with ability to complete project goals on time with attention to detail and high quality of work

Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, maturity and good judgment

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Demonstrated ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
