Senior Transportation Project Engineer V/VI

Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation projects involving roadway geometrics, multimodal design, traffic control, drainage, and large-scale infrastructure improvements
Serve as discipline lead or project engineer of record, producing and approving final engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports
Manage design teams, direct task assignments, provide technical mentorship, and ensure adherence to QA/QC processes across all project stages
Coordinate directly with clients, regulatory agencies, utilities, and subconsultants to establish project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
Identify design risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide high-level technical solutions to complex engineering challenges
Lead or support proposal development, project scoping, fee estimates, and overall project planning
Ensure project compliance with DOT (e.g., ODOT), LPA, municipal, and industry standards while contributing to internal best practices
Provide senior-level review and approval of work prepared by junior and mid-level engineers
Participate in business development efforts, client relationship management, and strategic planning for discipline growth
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Typically 12–20+ years of progressive experience in transportation or roadway engineering with a demonstrated record of technical leadership
Extensive proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D, including advanced roadway design, modeling, and plan production oversight
Deep knowledge of DOT, LPA, or municipal design standards, processes, and submittal requirements; recognized as a subject-matter resource
Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to serve as Engineer of Record and provide signature and seal for final deliverables
Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams, managing projects, coordinating with clients, and delivering complex infrastructure projects
Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills with ability to guide project strategy and mentor staff at all levels
Strong capability in scope development, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and high-level technical review
Preferred
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
