System Administrator II

County College of Morris is seeking a System Administrator II responsible for supporting the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of server and desktop operating systems. The role includes responding to system administration support requests and performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure reliability of the systems.

Responsibilities

Respond promptly to system administration support requests from end users, including troubleshooting issues with Windows, Apple, VMware, and Linux operating systems
Monitor, diagnose, and resolve issues affecting server and desktop operating systems, escalating to supervisor when necessary
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as patching systems, checking backups, and replacing faulty hardware
Notify appropriate individuals concerning the status of all work performed in writing and keep a copy for department records
Maintain currency on position-related technology (review trade publications, attend professional development seminars/webinars)
Keep supervisor apprised of all significant changes regarding operating system infrastructure
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required

Minimum of five years in system administration
Experience maintaining Microsoft, Apple, VMware, and Linux operating systems
Excellent communications skills, both written and oral
Knowledge of scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell and MDM solutions to streamline administrative tasks
Working knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices for operating system environments
Experience with Active Directory management, Group Policy, and user permissions
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a complex infrastructure
Familiarity with virtualization platforms and backup/recovery solutions
Willingness to obtain industry certifications related to position
Physical ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds and climb small ladders, as necessary for equipment installation and maintenance

Preferred

Associate's degree in computer science or engineering
