Assistant Band Director - Percussion
Comal Independent School District is seeking an Assistant Band Director - Percussion to assist with the direction and management of the overall program of instrumental music for the district. The role involves providing students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensuring compliance with state and district requirements.
Education Management
Responsibilities
Assists with the direction of middle school instrumental performers
Establishes performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band
Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities
Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events
Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area
Supports band booster club activities
Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs
Encourage students to excel in both band programs and academic arenas
Coordinates fundraising activities and assist with the management of funds
Assists in tracking current inventory of all fixed assets within department, to include maintenance and cleaning of instruments
Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Applies and enforces student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
Accompanies and supervises students on out-of-town trips
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
Maintains professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Preferred
Three years of teaching, band experience is preferred
Class B CDL with P and S endorsement is preferred
