Power Generator Field Technician / Field Engineer (Commercial Gensets)

They are seeking a Power Generator Field Technician / Field Engineer responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator and power distribution equipment, as well as providing technical support to customers.

Responsibilities
Daily travel with independent work structure
Provide 24x7 “on-call” services as required unless on PTO or Off Call
Maintain and safeguard company issued equipment, tools, and instruments
Battery installations and replacements
Perform required preventative maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled
Customer contact and interface
Communicate availability status to corporate office
Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records
Use of electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary
Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors hired by PSS as necessary
Maintain company vehicle in safe and operational condition
Ensure that work is performed to PSS standards
Complete all paperwork, including Field Service Reports, Time Sheets, Expense Reports, and other job required reports timely and accurately
Provide technical support to customers upon request
Maintain Technical documentation for study and/or review
Willing and able to attend training as company deems necessary
Own and maintain personal set of mechanical tools
Cross train in other areas as needed
Qualification
Required
Level II Technician requires three years of field experience servicing generator systems with some experience on 500kw+, proficient with preventative maintenance, retrofitting basic controls, minor ATS repairs and loadbanking equipment
All Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED equivalent, related military experience or equivalent field experience
Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming and replacing failed engine components
Operational and functional understanding of Automatic Transfer Systems, able to troubleshoot and repair with minimal direction
Ability to read and decipher electronic schematics and troubleshoot discreet mechanical and electronic systems to the component level with guidance from our Product Support team
Experience with or ability to quickly learn advanced generator and electric system controls including Woodward, Beckwith, and PLC equipment in an advanced electric controls environment
Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals and policies and procedures
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Must observe all safety standards
Ability to deal with customers where tact may be required to maintain continuing harmonious relationships
Computer fluent, with specific attention to ERP systems, email and Microsoft Office products
Maintain professional appearance on the job
Proven reasoning abilities and sound judgment
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to express commitment to PSS, its customers, and its employees

Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work
Physical Activity: 85% physical activity required on customer site working with equipment, 15% form completion, email, other administrative tasks and completing technical support activities by way of telephone and computer communication
May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds)
Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
Occasionally required to use hands, to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms
Combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to Protective Glasses, Protective Gloves, and Protective Footwear as required
Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read computer screens, paper documents, equipment
Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
Up to 10 consecutive hours driving heavy duty truck
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and hear others speaking
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background check, drug testing and MVR clearance
Work is 85%+ in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
The environment is varied since the performance of the essential duties is at customer sites
Must be willing to travel out of market/state up to 25% of the time
Requires exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as temperature and noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, hazardous materials, confined spaces, traffic hazards, and various chemicals
