Responsibilities

Act as the owner's trusted MEP engineering authority, ensuring all designs meet program requirements, operational goals, and long-term reliability
Review and approve consultant design packages (concept, SD, DD, IFP, IFC)
Provide critical evaluation of proposed solutions, identifying gaps, risks, interdisciplinary inconsistencies, or value-engineering opportunities that protect the owner's interests
Lead technical negotiations with designers, contractors, and equipment vendors
Evaluate mechanical and electrical system architectures for resiliency, efficiency, scalability, and maintainability
Oversee key mechanical systems, including: Data center cooling (CRAH/CRAC, chilled water, DX, evaporative cooling), Hydronics and fluid distribution, Heat rejection systems, Airflow and pressurization, Smoke exhaust and other life-safety systems Validate mechanical design calculations, equipment selections, and modeling outputs
Evaluate and guide the development of electrical power systems, including: Medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution, UPS systems and battery/energy-storage technologies, Generators, switchgear, and paralleling gear, Protective relaying, grounding, and bonding, Emergency power, lighting, and controls Review load studies, short-circuit analyses, arc flash studies, and selective coordination plans
Drive the design review process, ensuring alignment with codes, standards, and the owner's design basis
Coordinate interdisciplinary design integration across MEP, CSA, controls, and other engineering disciplines
Ensure all MEP design deliverables are complete, coordinated, and construction-ready
Maintain design logs, review matrices, risk registers, and decision documentation
Provide design-intent interpretation during construction and ensure contractors' work aligns with approved MEP drawings and specifications
Support submittal reviews, RFIs, and field issue resolution to ensure alignment with design intent
Evaluate all mechanical-related change order requests, including: Determining root cause (design development, unforeseen conditions, scope gaps, contractor means/methods), Assessing technical validity, Identifying alternate solutions or mitigation strategies, Leading technical negotiations to minimize unnecessary change costs, Ensuring documentation is compliant and justified
Evaluate all electrical-related change order requests, including: Determining root cause, Assessing technical validity, Identifying alternate solutions or mitigation strategies, Leading technical negotiations, Ensuring documentation is compliant and justified, Participate in commissioning planning, witness mechanical and electrical system testing, and validate that installed systems meet performance and reliability requirements
Work closely with program management, operations, construction, and finance teams to ensure that MEP solutions meet functional and business objectives
Communicate engineering decisions and recommendations to leadership clearly and effectively

Required

10+ years of MEP design experience, including significant experience in hyperscale data centers or mission-critical environments
5+ years as an owner's representative, design manager, or consulting lead (mechanical, electrical, or combined MEP)
Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related MEP discipline
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical codes and standards, including: ASHRAE, NFPA, Uptime Institute, NEC, NFPA 70/70E, IEEE standards
Proven ability to manage external design firms and hold partners accountable for performance
Professional Engineer (PE) license

Preferred

Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
