Responsibilities
Develops, coordinates, plans, and evaluates IT projects utilizing accepted project management methodologies
Communicates and explains project methodology and processes to interested groups and team members
Compiles and distributes project information, project status reports, and project budget expenditures
Identifies potential project risks and difficulties and designs strategies to mitigate or avoid them
Coordinates project activities with other state agencies, governmental jurisdictions, or private sector partners and contractors
Monitors and assists with project quality to ensure project deliverables are acceptable and fulfill the terms of the project contract or specifications
Assists in initiating projects, obtaining authorization and commitment, and demonstrating business need and project feasibility; identifies potential project risks and difficulties, and designs strategies to mitigate or avoid them
Assists in developing criteria for evaluating programs, proposals, and other pertinent information related to project assignments
Assists in developing project budgets, schedules, work plans, resources requirements, and cost estimates and projections; reviews and recommends proposals and bids to management; monitors and manages project costs to ensure projects are completed within budget
Assists in the development of project management policies, procedures, guidance, and tools to ensure projects follow project management best practices
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed
Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures: Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible. Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies
Will be required to travel up to 5% of the time
Actively embody and support the Texas Model by demonstrating its core values in daily tasks and interactions with others
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, business administration, or a related field
Five (5) years of full-time wage-earning project management experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Ten (10) years of wage-earning project management experience
Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor
Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and travel occasionally
Preferred
Bachelor's degree
Experience managing IT projects
Experience with PMI project management methodologies
Experience working for a governmental agency
Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)
Recent experience in an information technology environment
