Hydrogeologist/Groundwater Modeler – Entry Level (Hybrid)
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a hydrogeologist to join their team to work on challenging projects related to quantitative hydrogeology. In this entry-level hybrid role, the candidate will apply hydrogeology and groundwater modeling skills to assist with water supply evaluations, remediation of contaminated groundwater, and groundwater-surface water interactions.

Responsibilities
Apply foundational hydrogeology and geoscience principles to support subsurface investigations, groundwater and soil sampling, and related data collection
Assist with data analysis and contribute to evaluations of groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and site conditions
Support hydrogeologic modeling tasks such as data preparation, calibration, and interpretation under supervision
Help coordinate field activities and logistics, including contractor oversight and equipment preparation
Assist in tracking project progress and documenting key milestones
Contribute to the interpretation of geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and the identification of potential solutions to water- and subsurface-related challenges
Learn how to apply regulatory knowledge, hydrogeologic methods, and scientific reasoning to real-world scenarios
Produce clear figures and data summaries, draft report sections, and communications
Provide concise status updates to project managers and stakeholders
Effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships
Qualification
Required
master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or a related engineering degree
thesis, coursework, or previous work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling; two or more years of relevant work experience
minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
strong computer skills, including familiarity with MODFLOW and Microsoft Office Suite
possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
Preferred
proficiency in GIS and programming experience using Python or FORTRAN
40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification
familiarity with Groundwater Vistas
experience in aquifer test implementation and analysis
experience or coursework in the use of groundwater fate and transport codes
experience or coursework in parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis using PEST
familiarity with environmental regulations
