Miami University is seeking a Data Research Analyst-1 to join their Enrollment Management and Student Success team. This role focuses on providing actionable data and information to support data-informed decision making, working closely with various stakeholders to analyze and visualize complex data sets.

Responsibilities

Create user-friendly reports and data visualizations to support critical university functions, including admissions, maintenance of student records, and evaluation of student success initiatives
Extract, manipulate, and combine data directly from primary and secondary sources using multiple technologies, including Workday Reporting, ETL, SQL, WQL, Tableau Prep or similar products
Manage data collection, storage, reporting, and analysis practices to evaluate goals and assess outcomes of Enrollment Management and Student Success units
Provide support for ongoing reports that interpret collected data using both appropriate research/evaluation methods and data collection techniques
Analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
Interpret data and analyses using advanced statistical techniques
Monitor, assess, and develop comprehensive reports on the impact of targeted interventions
Understand, validate, and test data and reports received from other units
Enhance skillset with data analytics tools and methods and learn new software as needed
Write and organize appropriate documentation of assigned office data policies and procedures
Produce ad hoc and recurring deliverables on time and with the highest quality
Represent the university at relevant events with external constituents, professional associations, and career and workforce development initiatives
Successfully manage multiple projects with complex needs and various timelines

Required

Bachelor's Degree or an Associate's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience
Background in SQL or other programming skills necessary for data extraction and maintenance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
Ability to build visual dashboards and reports to accurately express key information to users

Preferred

Preference given to degrees in Data Science, Information Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Social Science Research Methods, Administration, or a related field
Demonstrated experience with direct source data extraction via SQL, ETL, or related programming languages
Demonstrated experience in blending and conducting analytics across multiple data sources
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI
Experience with higher education data and business cycles
Experience in statistical analyses and data analytic operations beyond reporting
Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing quantitative datasets (R, SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.)
Ability to represent the division and Miami University in professional settings
