Responsibilities

Supervise/QC late newscasts on WJLA and WJLA 24/7

Coach team on “producing up” shows with strong graphics, breakouts and showcasing content you won't see on our competitors

Collaborate with digital team on getting important content out on all platforms throughout the shift

Edit and approve reporter scripts and anchor reads

Coordinate with scheduling managers to make sure nightside team is properly staffed

Produce special coverage and other projects as needed

Rotating weekend on-call schedule

Required

Active news consumer with clear understanding of importance of multi-platform approach to getting news to the audience where they are

Strong communication skills

Enjoys teaching and coaching great storytelling

Excellent editorial judgment and writing skills

Committed to objectivity, journalistic standards and ethics

Clear and thorough understanding of copyright, libel, defamation and other legal standards related to content and scripting

Ability to line produce shows if needed

Understands the 24-7 nature of news, available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed

Positive attitude, capable problem-solver

Bachelor's Degree in journalism or related field

Minimum 5 years experience in major market newsroom

Preferred

3 years in management preferred

Working knowledge of iNews, Xpression, Ross Overdrive and Tagboard a plus
