Responsibilities

Prioritizing work and managing team workload, project resourcing & coordination, including saying “no” and “not yet” when appropriate
Keeping the team on track and finding ways to adjust when surprises happen
Detailed participation in code and design reviews, providing technical guidance and feedback to team members
Gathering and communicating status about how and what the team is doing
Communicating and coordinating with other teams, from individual contributors to executives
Triaging customer support and user tickets and building a relationship with those teams
Collaborating with senior engineers and product management to shape roadmap and technical strategy
Balancing concrete and immediate use cases with longer term technical strategy
Helping resolve interpersonal conflicts
Coaching engineers and guiding their career growth via frequent feedback
Hiring, interviewing, and occasionally sourcing candidates

Required

Prior experience as a manager of software development teams, coupled with prior experience as a software developer
Experience working on systems software using C++ or C
Solid design and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated passion for engineering excellence, quality, security, and performance, coupled with a desire to ship elegant solutions to complex problems
Strong cross-group collaboration and interpersonal communication skills working with a variety of roles including engineering, product management, support, and sales engineering
A strong sense of ownership. Your team owns the code and the future of these components
Demonstrated track record of mentoring and coaching engineers
Experience working with remote teams and individuals while maintaining agility and velocity, and helping the team members grow and succeed
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across the org, from executive staff to engineers
Both a sense of humor and a sense of humility

Preferred

Familiarity with systems programming on multiple platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Experience working with distributed systems that include both endpoint and cloud components
Experience with and interest in cybersecurity
Experience with event-based architectures
Experience in environments where high levels of safety and confidence are important
Previous experience starting new teams
