Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) is dedicated to inspiring and motivating a diverse student body. The Building Automation Systems Technician I is responsible for supporting the programming, operation, and maintenance of building automation systems across multiple facilities, ensuring optimal performance of HVAC and lighting systems to enhance energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
Primary/Secondary Education
Responsibilities
Assist Area Maintenance Personnel with BAS Issues: Provides direct support to area maintenance staff by assisting with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving building automation system (BAS) malfunctions. Utilizes system diagnostics tools and real-time data analysis to identify performance issues in HVAC, lighting, and other environmental control systems, ensuring quick and efficient repairs that minimize downtime and occupant discomfort
Design, Build, and Modify BAS Graphics: Develops and updates graphical user interfaces for BAS systems using specialized graphics software. Customizes graphical representations of facility operations, ensuring that maintenance personnel and operators can easily monitor system performance and respond to alerts. Designs graphics that simplify the visualization of complex system functions for enhanced operational clarity and user interaction
Configure and Program HVAC and BAS Control Systems: Programs and configures building automation systems (BAS), including direct digital control (DDC) systems for HVAC equipment. Creates and modifies sequences of operations (SOO) to ensure energy efficiency, optimal equipment performance, and occupant comfort. Adjusts and fine-tunes control parameters such as setpoints, alarms, and schedules to align with operational requirements and energy management goals
Installation and Integration of New BAS Hardware: Assists with the installation of new BAS hardware components, including sensors, controllers, and communication devices. Ensures seamless integration of new devices into existing BAS platforms and verifies system interoperability. Supports upgrades by replacing outdated hardware and ensures all components are connected and operational within the network. Coordinates with contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with system design and specifications
Maintain and Calibrate Existing BAS Systems: Conducts regular maintenance and calibration of existing BAS systems to ensure peak performance and accurate system outputs. Performs routine inspections to verify the functionality of system sensors, actuators, and controllers, addressing discrepancies promptly. Ensures that systems are configured correctly to minimize energy waste and that all devices are in compliance with established operational standards
Collaborate on New Construction and BAS Projects: Participates in the planning, development, and review of building automation systems for new construction projects. Works closely with engineers, architects, contractors, and project managers to ensure that BAS designs meet FCPS standards and integrate smoothly with existing systems. Provides input on the design, selection, and programming of control systems to optimize building performance
Integrate Third-Party Hardware into Existing BAS Platforms: Supports the integration of third-party hardware and systems into existing BAS networks. Evaluates compatibility and ensures that all devices communicate effectively within the broader BAS framework. Coordinates with vendors to install, test, and troubleshoot third-party components, maintaining a unified control system across facilities
