Research Technician I/II
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization focused on cancer and infectious diseases. They are seeking a Research Technician I/II to perform lab experiments studying antibodies and B cells against respiratory viruses, with responsibilities including conducting assays, managing data, and assisting in research design.

Responsibilities
Standard assays such as PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, transfections, cell line maintenance, ELISA’s, flow cytometry
Viral production, purification, and neutralization assays
Rodent handling, viral challenge, drug treatment, anesthesia, in vivo imaging, and tissue dissection
Collect and analyze data and maintain an organized and regularly updated lab notebook
Write up an experiment plan, perform and lead experiments, assist in analysis, and provide a report with data interpretation
Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects
Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results
Prepare and present written and oral progress reports concerning studies including background, results, and interpretation of data
May conduct literature reviews to assist in determining the most suitable methods to be used in research
May perform statistical analyses, write computer programs, or manage research data base
Other duties as assigned
All Research Technician I responsibilities but with a higher level of independent work
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
Demonstrated basic laboratory skills
2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework
Preferred
BA/BS degree in microbiology, immunology, virology, biotechnology or other similar areas of focus
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in virology and molecular biology
The technician must show initiative, willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
Willing to work with biohazardous/infectious agents, human specimens, and rodent colonies under carefully controlled conditions
Excellent and meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication, responsiveness to feedback, and organizational skills
Flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments
