Seasonal - Biological Science Technician (NWRS)

Responsibilities
Assists in planning wildlife censuses and surveys such as establishing schedules and procedures to accomplish surveys
Independently carries out wildlife studies by following research methods and established procedures for accomplishing and reporting the work
Monitors and implement activities related to conservation, management, and/or control of wildlife
Monitors and assists in control of wildlife, plant disease outbreaks, pest plant control, mowing/seeding activities and vegetation removal
Captures, applies visual and radio tags, and gathers physiological and spatial data on wildlife
Collects, assesses, and organizes biological and physical environment data from field investigations and reports findings to determine actual and potential impact on fish, wildlife or plant resources from development projects, restoration projects or habitat improvement projects
Assists in planning plants surveys and recommends plant management practices
Enters and retrieves data from geographic information systems (GIS) and/or other information management systems
Uses automated databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data, using standard statistical methods in preparation of wildlife and/or botany reports
Assists in preparing news release drafts for area media, and/or presenting informational or educational programs to individuals, local organizations, and schools
Operates farm tractors, light trucks, vehicles, small water craft and various other equipment such as generators, radios, radio tracking equipment, water monitoring equipment, global positioning systems and cameras
Provides work direction and guidance to biological technicians and volunteers and YCC enrollees, including safe handling of tools and operation of motorized vehicles and watercraft
Collects physiological and demographic data on harvested game at hunter check stations
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Suitability for employment, as determined by background investigation
Individuals assigned male at birth after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-05 in the Federal service
Conduct vegetation studies; apply herbicides; conduct surveys of wildlife and/or waterfowl; capture, handle, and tag a variety of wildlife; operate a variety of vehicles and equipment; use various computer software to enter data into existing databases; and gather data and evaluate and present findings in report form
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social)
Your resume must describe your job-related qualifications (paid and non-paid work experience) that includes job title, beginning and ending dates (month and year), hours worked per week, and description of job duties
Current and former Federal employees should include pay plan, series, and grade level for relevant federal experience
Benefits
Cost of Living Allowance: In addition to the yearly salary, Alaska positions are entitled to a 3.00% cost-of-living allowance (COLA). This allowance is subject to annual review, adjustment, and rate decrease.
Most Federal employees earn both annual and sick leave.
Effective January 2015, employees on temporary appointments may be eligible for health benefits through the Federal Employees Health Benefits program and, if eligible, will receive the same government contribution as full-time permanent employees.
