Senior Systems Engineer/Architect

Responsibilities
Senior technical member of a systems development team responsible for design, development, maintenance, engineering and overall system architecture implementation for assigned area
Applies current and emerging software development technologies to perform system level development and modification tasks
Trouble-shoots system design and software/system administration/database administration/local area network implementation problems
Responds to system level problem reports originating from the field or internal test activities, by identifying defects, correcting, and testing the solution
Ensures the use and compliance of applicable DoD, DISA and DFAS standards and SOPs as they relate to software development and maintenance
Reviews technical literature and executive software guidance to maintain knowledge of new and evolving modifications, enhancements, and extensions to operating system and development environment
Analyzes large business problem areas, divides into component parts, analyzes the various aspects of the problem, and then assembles an improved system to solve the problem

This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination
New employees to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements in 12 months

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
Specialized experience is defined as serving as a senior systems engineer/architect for software systems using multiple server platforms (e.g. IBM Z/OS, Linux, Unix, Cloud), multiple programming languages (e.g. COBOL, Assembler, Java, C, C++, C#) and multiple scripting tools (e.g. JCL, Python, Bash/Shell, REXX, JavaScript) to engineer system solutions; ensures compliance with relevant standards and incorporates emerging technologies; addresses problem reports and contributes to overall system architecture
Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level
