Emergency Vehicle Technician

NEOGOV is seeking an Emergency Vehicle Technician for the City of North Port. The role involves performing skilled inspections, repairs, and maintenance on emergency services equipment, including fire and police vehicles, while working under the direction of the Fleet Services Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Performs repair and maintenance of Fire Department and Police Department equipment
Inspects, diagnoses, repairs and/or replaces components in drive trains, suspensions, fuel systems, electrical systems, air systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems and all other systems found on fire apparatus, ambulances, police and other department vehicles
Reads and interprets manuals and other materials related to repair and maintenance of fire apparatus, ambulances and other department vehicles
Opens work orders, keeps and maintains records, reports and service logs
Performs services and repairs at other locations
Repairs minor body damage
Installs emergency equipment on new vehicles
Performs occasional machine lathe work and welding as needed
May maintain parts inventory on service truck
Works well without direct supervision, must be self-motivated and proactive in completing duties of the position
Subject to recall during off-duty hours for critical vehicle repairs
Monitors inventory of equipment, parts, tires, tools and supplies
Responsible for keeping maintenance building and work area clean, neat and in order
Provides guidance and assistance to customers

Required

Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school, or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
Four (4) years of experience in the diagnoses, maintenance, and repair of automotive, law enforcement, and fire fighting vehicles
Law Enforcement Certification from EVT required
Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B or greater within six (6) months of being employed in this position
Possession of appropriate current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications for Level II EVT stats for fire apparatus technician within one (1) year
Ability to provide own tools, as required
Thorough knowledge of the techniques and methods used in repairing and maintaining specialized fire and police equipment
Knowledge of servicing and repairing the components and systems of the fire apparatus, ambulances, police and other department vehicles
Knowledge of occupational hazards and preventive safety measures
Experience in metal fabrication
Knowledge of automotive and emergency lighting equipment electrical systems
Ability to read and understand shop manuals and specifications and use computerized diagnostic tools
Ability to detect, analyze, and take appropriate actions to repair malfunctions in components and systems of fire apparatus, ambulances, police and other department vehicles
Ability to document repair work and maintain computerized and written records
Ability to maintain parts inventory on a service truck
Ability to use all types of hand tools and related power equipment associated with automotive and vehicular maintenance and repair
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with co-workers and employees in customer departments

Preferred

Experience with Pierce fire apparatus
Master Mechanic ASE certification
