Legislative Analyst (Office of the Minority Leader)

The State of Florida is seeking a Legislative Analyst for the Office of the Minority Leader. This role involves providing technical expertise on various subject areas, conducting research, preparing documents, and assisting legislators and staff with problem-solving and communication strategies.

Responsibilities

Monitors the progress of legislation through committees of reference and on the floor
Analyzes legislation suggesting strategies for engagement
Briefs members on legislation and policy developments
Creates impactful resources related to legislation to help legislators and their staff communicate with their district
Researches and monitors current events related to proposed legislation, and organizes and presents written reports in a clear detailed format

Required

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work
A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience
A doctorate from an accredited college or university can substitute for two years of the required experience
Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education
Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills
Knowledge of Florida state government
Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and to contribute to the efficient internal functioning of the office staff
Knowledge of professional workplace standards, including expectations for appropriate attire, conduct, and representation of the office
Ability to manage time effectively, demonstrating punctuality, meeting deadlines, and maintaining reliable attendance
Skill in collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to support a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
Ability to monitor and respond to electronic communication in a timely manner
Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports and other written materials
Ability to produce quality work under pressure
Ability to work more than core business hours as needed during committee weeks, regular session, special sessions, and during other exceptional circumstances
Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
