Product Development Test Engineer

Audio-Technica U.S., Inc. is based in Stow, Ohio, and is part of a global organization responsible for operations in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. The Product Development Test Engineer is an entry-level position focused on testing and evaluating products during the development process, including developing PC software for product testing and maintaining document management for various projects.

Responsibilities

Designs and implements product evaluation test processes using industry standard practices and recommendations
Designs and builds test systems, equipment, tools and jigs
Creation of drawings or diagrams for product development or production purposes
Oversees, executes or participates in the evaluation of prototypes
Suggests product design changes for performance improvement of existing products and prototypes
Carries out engineering field tests or other product evaluations as specified
Maintains a record of all tests and reports results
Designs PC test automation software for use with laboratory equipment to efficiently qualify audio, RF and network performance of new and existing products
Develops PC software and/or embedded firmware for product feasibility and demonstration purposes as directed by product development team goals
Assists Applications Engineers in programming special features to support select customer applications use existing hardware products
Follows document management protocols for storing test results, drawings, specifications and software
Keeps document records current with latest product definitions and test result findings
Oversees, executes or participates in creation of documents and processes to assist in tracking and control of all pertinent records for assigned projects
Works closely within ATUS professional product development department, as part of cross-departmental teams, and on a global team basis as needed to ensure clear communication and accurate test results
Communicates with Audio-Technica Japan as an engineering contact, or other vendors as needed for clear definition of test parameters and best practices
Prepares test reports, tracks and communicates project milestones, and maintains technical communications and contacts as needed to carry out product development process goals
Participates in the development and tracking of budgets and resource requirements
Occasionally supports ATUS QC Department as QC Inspector if needed during peak times, either in Stow or at SEDC
Participates in product development meetings as needed to insure efficient communication, handoff and throughput in the product development process
Attends trade shows as applicable to maintain industry understanding and knowledge as well as assist others in the promotion or understanding of our products
Participates in trade organizations as beneficial to the ATUS strategy and for understanding of all aspects of technologies relating to our products

Required

Strong understanding of audio-related products, including microphones, cartridges, T/T, mixers, speakers, headphones, as well as audio electronics and digital audio
Ability to use software development tools and program computers for test development (primarily Windows OS). Ability to program in: .NET/C#, C++, Windows scripting and/or LabView is beneficial (need not be fluent in all)
Ability to conduct self-guided research for the purpose of learning new programming languages and developer tools without extensive guidance. Must be highly motivated, self-starter
Some experience with AV DSP systems such as Q-SYS or Crestron, as well as knowledge of DAWs like Pro Tools and familiarity with recording products in development, is beneficial
Some mechanical CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, etc.) drawing or modeling experience beneficial
Excellent process and systems-oriented organizational and communication skills
Ability to define objectives, then plan, execute and check results
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to operate test equipment commonly used in audio testing
Ability to work as a member of a cross-departmental and global project teams
Available to travel (trade shows, project meetings, and other)
College degree and/or equivalent industry experience with demonstrated knowledge of electronics testing, electronic engineering, computer engineering, and / or test software design - including use of API's
